An instant price for DXF drawings, while the customer waits.

Customers upload a DXF on the product page. GaugeQuote measures the drawing on your server and prices it with your materials and machine rates. Drawings that need a person's check go to a manual quote.

What is measured

  • Cut length

    Every outline and hole, in metres.

  • Pierces

    One for each closed outline and each open path.

  • Material

    The part's material area, or its bounding rectangle, plus your waste percentage. You choose.

  • Size

    Width and height of the drawing.

How the price is made

The price comes from your own settings.

Settings that make the price
MaterialPrice per sheet or per m², sheet size, own waste percentage.
CuttingRate per metre of cut, or per machine minute with a feed speed per material.
PiercesA charge per pierce, or seconds per pierce for per-minute pricing.
Order chargesSetup fee, minimum charge and quantity discounts.
Extra linesYour own formulas, for example a handling charge per pierce.

Sheet fit

GaugeQuote checks that the part fits your sheet, as drawn or turned 90 degrees, after the sheet edge you set. A part that does not fit goes to a manual quote. A part smaller than your smallest part size does too. You can charge the area used or whole sheets.

A sheet with its unusable edge, a part as drawn and the same part turned 90 degrees As drawn Turned 90° Sheet edge
The dashed line is the sheet edge you set. The part must fit inside it one way or the other.

Manual-quote fallback

Some drawings should not get an automatic price. GaugeQuote sends these to a manual quote.

  • a drawing that cannot be read, or a binary DXF;
  • a drawing over the server limits;
  • open outlines, crossing lines, hidden or switched-off items, or an unusual unit;
  • a part too big for the sheet or below the smallest part size.

Logged-in customers send these as a quote request. You price the request in the admin. The customer then sees your price in My Account, adds it to the cart and checks out.

Units, checks and the order

Units

When the drawing names its unit, that unit is used. When it does not, the customer picks mm, cm, m, in or ft, and the server measures again in that unit.

The server decides

The live price on the page is a preview. When the customer adds to cart, the server measures the stored file again and prices it from your settings. Measurements or prices sent from the browser are ignored.

On the order

The cart, the order and the job sheet show the drawing size, cut length, pierces and unit. Staff download the original file and print a job sheet with the drawing.

Machines

Add machines next to your main machine, for example a laser and a CNC router. Each has its own rate per metre or per minute, pierce charge and feed speeds. Each product picks its machine. Cutting includes 2 machines in total. Cutting Plus has no machine limit.
